Portsmouth Secondary (PSS) student tops 2018 CSEC examinations

Charles Gilbert of the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS) has topped the 2018 CSEC examinations with 10 ones and 2 twos.
The 2018 results were released today Wednesday 15 August during a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development at the Financial Centre in Roseau.
The top twenty students are as follows; Grace Ettiene of the Convent High School – 10 ones and 1 two, Britana George of the Portsmouth Secondary School – 10 ones, Bethany Vital of the Convent High School – 9 ones, 2 twos and 2 threes, Joyisca George of the Portsmouth Secondary School – 9 ones and 2 twos, Nicole Vigilant of the Castle Bruce Secondary School – 9 ones and 1 two, Aaliyah Plaisimond of the Portsmouth Secondary School – 9 ones and 1 two, Selena Victor of the Portsmouth Secondary School – 9 ones and 1 two, Sherniah Carbon of the A. W SDA School, Portsmouth – 9 ones and 1 two, Makayla Bedneau of the Convent High School – 9 ones and 1 three, Megan Luke of the Convent High School – 9 ones and 1 three, Kianne Benjamin of the Convent High School – 9 ones, Shaniah Edwards of the Convent High School – 9 ones, Liselle Jervier of the A. W SDA School, Portsmouth – 9 ones, Brillon Joseph of the St. Mary’s Academy – 8 ones and 2 twos, Julia Cyrille of the North East Comprehensive School – 8 ones and 2 twos, Kaila-Ann Guiste of the Convent High School – 8 ones and 1 two, Serena Maxwell of the Convent High School – 8 ones and 1 two, Shaun Moses of the Convent High School- 8 ones and 1 two and Laquisha Wallace of the St. John’s Academy – 7 ones and 6 twos.
A total of 976 students wrote the CSEC examinations in 33 subject areas.
Thirty-eight students scored six or more ones in the 2018 exams with fourteen students scoring 6 ones, five students receiving 7 ones, five students scoring 8 ones, 11 students receiving 9 ones, and three students scoring 10 ones.
There was a 3.6% increase in the overall percentage pass of students receiving grades 1, 2 and 3 in the 2018 CSEC exams compared to 2017.
